There are many fun ways to dress up the house that reflect the origins of the holiday and won't empty the pocketbook. The everlasting pumpkin provides endless possibilities. Pumpkins can be carved, painted or left plain and set about the house and yard. Children love to design and carve their own jack o' lantern faces. The pumpkins could be complimented with smaller gourds and dried Indian corn. Dried corn stalks tied in bundles add an attractive backdrop for a pumpkin display. These displays look particularly attractive placed outside the front door or out in the lawn. If carefully stored, the corn, gourds and corn stalks can be saved and used again the next year.
